Our New England Vacation - Part 4

You can find Part 1 HERE, Part 2 HERE and Part 3 HERE.

Since we were not able to visit Jordan Pond the day before, we headed out early and made it our first stop of the day. A few other people had the same idea, but it was not nearly as crowded.

The sun was out bright and early with a cloudless sky. It was a beautiful view. The two round mountains in the distance are called the Bubbles. The North Bubble is on the left and the South Bubble is on the right.

From there we headed to Bass Harbor. I wanted to see and photograph the lighthouse. I’d seen some pictures of it and had it in my head how I wanted to capture it myself. But when we arrived and walked down the trail, there was not any way I could figure out how in the world to get the view I’d seen in other images. Had I walked any further out on the rocks I’d have been in the ocean, so I was confused. My friend Jennifer had captured a wonderful picture of it, but I couldn’t figure out how she did it. Of course, there must have been another trail, but I didn’t think to look for it while I was there. Soooo, this is all I got, blah.

The opposite direction was pretty, though.

And Mr. Roberts enjoyed the view with some other tourists.

I also really like this image of a window in the lightkeeper’s.

We meandered back to Bar Harbor and explored the island by car. This stop, I believe, is Ship Harbor. It was quintessential coastal Maine.

Arriving back in Bar Harbor, we strolled again through the town, soaking up our last afternoon. After a delicious dinner, we returned once more to Cadillac Mountain for sunset. We arrived about an hour before and were treated to a beautiful sailing schooner to watch.

Here are the Porcupine Islands just before sunset.

And a herring gull came to visit me while I was sitting waiting for sunset.

Sunset arrived, and it was so beautiful to be watching again from this mountain top.

One last shot before I had to go.

And then this was happening behind me to whole time. The moon was orange!

Our last day in Maine was wonderful. I truly think I’ll return one day. It’s such a beautiful place and I’m glad I had the chance to visit.

The next morning would be a long travel day back to Boston. Our only day on the road and it was the day it rained. How lucky is that?
